Textbook is the basis for teaching. Its content and quality could play a direct role in the effects of teaching and learning. With the wave of world’s globalization, compiling schoolbooks should borrow the modern education idea and practical experience of power countries on education and fully consider the native reality on education with developing vision and global perspective. To analyze American textbooks has become the research hotspot gradually, as remarkable achievements have been scored in education undertakings in this country which is the bellwether of world’s economy, science and culture. The paper adopts<Glencoe Science-Physics:Principles and Problems> as study text, which is the relatively popular physics teaching materials about secondary school in the USA, and aims to grasp common characteristics and superiorities of American schoolbooks. They could provide beneficial reference for physics textbooks writing and teaching reform, and help to promote middle school physics education in our country.Employing System as the theoretical foundation, the thesis mainly consists of several parts as follows, putting to use literature analysis method, statistical analysis method, case analysis method etcetera.The first part is introduction. It clarifies some elements on why we choosing Glencoe Science-Physics:Principles and Problems> to study in global education reform, and the elements contain the background, reason, goal, value and so on. Our paper hopes that Chinese physics books may absorb the cream of "Stones from other hills" on the basis of inheriting and development.The second part is system theory presenting. The thesis makes use of that theory with historical grooming. The main point is that dimension of textbook analysis should combine with some features of purposiveness, integrity, relativity, etc, and reflect some principles as integrity, hierarchy, order, modeling and optimization, etc. It will lay the academic foundation of the detailed analysis.The third part is constructing model of textbook analysis. Starting from stating textbook’s definition and function, textbook analysis illuminates promoting students development is the core function of schoolbook. According to integrity principle, the following part obeys the thinking way as’synthesis-analysis-synthesis’, and analyses from the integral function. It deconstructs every element and comes to a decision that there are four dimensions to study physics teaching materials. They are knowledge element, technique element, logic element and non-intelligence element. Then analysis model has achieved to be built.The forth part is deep analysis with the study text. In the light of the model above, the author classifies sub-elements by every dimension through the effective information from this text, and concretely analyses linking with cases. What’s more, this part conducts that the physics textbook has many characteristics like innovativeness, order, inquiry, etc.The last part is summary. After resolving those elements, our analysis reverts to integrity, elucidating the relative of textbook and environment, and makes overall evaluation for the books. Analyzing and estimating American textbooks will apply to Chinese reform of physics teaching and schoolbook with valuable suggestions.Curriculum Revolution is the heart of basic education reform. And teaching materials’writing concentrated expresses the idea of curriculum Revolution, having overall, strategic position. Keeping a foothold of Chinese revolution background, this article makes great efforts to explore the radical problem that how to reflex international most modern education ideas through the analysis. These efforts will profound a new and constructive suggestion for writing textbooks on whole stage and developing education in China and we can do our bit for education reformation of our country in progress.
