Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi,1746-1827) is a Swiss democratic educator in the19th century and is famous in the world. He devoted all his life to the poor children education and national education career. Pestalozzi’s family education thought is an important part and the central content of his whole education theory system. By reviewing and interpreting Pestalozzi’s family education thought, this thesis explains the causes and the theoretical basis of the formation of his family education thought, draws the outline of successive development and changes of his family education thought, presents Pestalozzi’s discussion about the importance of family education, focuses on the principles, basic content and main methods of his family education thought, and finally learns the experience of his family education thought to give inspirations and references to our today’s country family education.This thesis mainly divides into five chapters. The first chapter mainly explains the reason of the selection of this topic, research significance of this thesis, overseas and domestic research status on this topic, the research methods and innovation of this thesis, and the research idea and research scope. The second chapter mainly explains Swiss social background and educational development status in the times of Pestalozzi, and Pestalozzi’s personal factors which influenced on the formation of his family education thought; At the same time, by clearing up and analyzing Pestalozzi’s education books and the education experiments he engaged in, this chapter also draws the outline of the development and changes of Pestalozzi’s family education thought. The third chapter, first of all, states Pestalozzi’s epistemology, human nature view and religious view to clarify the theoretical basis of his family education thought; Secondly, presents Pestalozzi’s discussion about the importance of family education from the perspective of the role of the living room for children’s education and the role of parents for children’s education. The fourth chapter firstly summarizes the basic principles of Pestalozzi’s family education thought, they are respectively the education principle of "love", the principle of moral education and religious education which are given priority to, the principle of comprehensive and harmonious development of "heart, brain and hand", and the principle of educated in life; Secondly, primarily based on Pestalozzi’s education works, such as "Lienhard and Gertrud","Gertrud how to educate her children", and so on, respectively from moral education and religious education, intellectual education, physical education and art education, capability training, and labor education, this chapter discusses the basic content and the main methods of Pestalozzi’s family education. The fifth chapter discusses the inspirations from Pestalozzi’s family education thought to our today’s country family education, they are respectively that we should attach great importance to the mother’s role in education for children, and that moral education is the center of the family education, and that moral education for children should start from "love" education, and that parents should pay attention to child’s labor consciousness and the ability to work in the family.
