As a short and unique historical period of Chinese history,the period of the Republic of China is of transitional significanceto China’s modernization. It is also a critical period when Chineseeducation is turning from traditional to modern. During this period,there are specialized theoretical basis and scientific practiceresearch for the middle school Chinese textbood writing, which haveprovided many references for our textbook compilation.This paper first discusses the basic understanding of themiddle school Chinese textbooks and its course of developmentduring the period of the Republic of China, then analyzes its impactfactors and characteristics. Finally, this paper selects therepresentitive works of the three materials for case study toinvestigate the contribution of middle school Chinese textbook andits enlightment on contemparary middle school Chinese textbookcompilation.The paper includes five parts. Introduction partmainly describes the reason why the topic is chosen, researchstatus at home and abroad, research methods, difficulties andinnovation. The first chapter discusses the basic understandingof the middle school Chinese textbooks during the period of theRepublic of China and divides its course of development into thefollowing periods: tortuous development period (1912-1921), multivariate exploration period (1922-1928), standardized andmature period (1928-1949). The second chapter discusses fourimpact factors of textbook writing, including social situation,education policy, education and teaching situation, western ideas,language. The characteristics of textbook writing including senseof time, scientific, moral educational and popularity are alsodiscussed. The third chapter concludes the contributions made bymiddle school Chinese textbook during the period of the Republicof China, including initially established the nature of thelanguage subjects, gradually promote education fair,promoting theformation of textbook editing and evaluation system, acceleratedthe spread of modern thought, carry forward the excellenttraditional culture. The last chapter summarizes the experienceof the textbook writing during the period of the Republic of Chinaand puts forward some countermeasures to the existed problems ofcurrent middle shcool Chinese textbook.
