Secondary school education has long been dominant in the education system, so it is particularly important to have further studies on middle school physical education. The period of the Republic of China represents the primary stage of new education in our country. To cultivate talents who adapt to social development, school education appears. With deepening of education reform,we try our best to do it in the process of physical education curriculum reform\ "inheritance history\" and \ "taking history as a mirror\", it is believed that today’s physical education curriculum reform will be regarded as scientific reference one hundred years later.This paper takes the high school curriculum criterion in the 20 th century as the main clue, takes the Republic magazines such as Shen Bao and Ta Kung Pao, and literature about educational history as the research basis. Through studies on the physical education curriculum reform of Republic of China, we summarized that curriculum criterion has experienced seven formal reforms after the establishment of physical education curriculum by methods of literature, historical research, comparative analysis and expert interview. After a comprehensive analysis of secondary physical curriculum reform in the period of Republic of China, which was a systematized comparative analysis ranking from physical curriculum designing, curriculum objectives, curriculum content,and curriculum management to physical curriculum assessment system, we founded that physical curriculum reform took the school physical education and church spread as the main approach. It shows five features: epochal character,practicability pertinence, openness and specialty. Through the studies onsecondary school physical curriculum of Republic of China, we elaborated advantages of physical curriculum reform as follows:1.Giving consideration to both international and national character;2.Absorbing advanced ideology of foreign education;3.Paying attention to the development of sports game;4.Paying attention to scientificity and democracy;5.Paying attention to the education reform thoughts of cultivating talents by moral education;6.Paying attention to extracurricular sports activities;7.Developed diversified curriculum objectives;8.Established a relatively systematic and scientific physical curriculum assessment system.But the reform also shows some deficiencies:1.Limited idea of physical education curriculum reform;2.Implementation dynamics of curriculum reform is insufficient;3.Ineffective supervision of the curriculum reform;4.Physical curriculum reform cannot get rid of fate as a political tool.After analyzing its strengths and weaknesses comprehensively, we proposed enlightenments of physical education curriculum reform in modern China:1.The information of physical curriculum should be updated in real time;2.Giving priority to cultivate talents during the process of giving a P.E class;3.Curriculum reform should pay more attention to practicability of physical curriculum;4.Physical education curriculum reform should proceed from actual conditions of our country;5.Physical education should pay more attention to the development and application of sports game;6.Development of curriculum resources should pay attention to combine the resources of traditional P.E class;7.Extracurricular sports activities are ranked as formal curriculum;8.Perfect supervision mechanism of physical curriculum should be established;9.Physical curriculum reform emphasizes the load capacity and density of exercise.
