The language course is a comprehensive and practical course learning thelanguage use; Language literacy is the core of the language course and it is thefundamental purpose of the language education to improve students’ language literacy.“All high school students must have language literacy", according to the High SchoolLanguage New Curriculum Standards (Trial Version). In the process of improving thehigh school students’ language literacy, we run into a stumbling block~theExamination-oriented Education in which our students do not have enough time,energy and even condition to have a wide reading. So without extensive reading itwould be unrealistic to truly improve the language literacyFortunately, it is the Internet age that has brought the good opportunity to ourhigh school students. In the Internet age of information and knowledge explosion, thenetwork reading has become part of the lives of high school students and it alsopresents a magniifcent and spectacular feast of knowledge network to high schoolstudents. It not only meets the high school students’ thirst for knowledge, but alsoprovides a good platform for their improving language literacy. However, In the faceof the network reading, the high school students, who are on the physical andpsychological growth, generally show a loss. On the one hand, a number of peoplebury themselves into the tremendous network information and become its slaves; Onthe other hand, the inexperienced high school students are setbacks and perplexedunder the network reading. Faced with the opportunities and challenges of thenetwork reading, the classic reading is a useful weapon to cope with the networkreading’s drawbacks. When the Classic reading suffer from the network Waterloo, oureducators should keep a clear head: national culture can not be lost, and classicreading can not be cancelled. We should adhere with the spirit and the method toprevent from its generalization and entertainment, and insist on using classical worksas the foundation of the high school student network reading, thereby improving theiroverall language literacy.In my article, I will take the students from three high schools of He Yuan Cityfor example, and have a survey and an interview about their network reading, andfocus on the network reading’s effect on their language literacy. Through the analysisand summary of the survey results, I intend to ifnd the new ways to improve the highschool students’ language literacy by the network platform.
