Ideological and political education, as an important ideological weapon, always attachesgreat importance and direct leadership by the party and the state. It is responsible for themission of propagating Chinese culture essence, grasping the correct ideological direction andsetting up the mainstream values. University student groups are the inheritor of culture andmain force of the national construction, thus their historical mission determines that they are aprimary object of ideological and political education. The dominant education has been themain education pattern in our colleges and universities. However, in the new century and newstage, profound changes have taken place in the international and domestic situation, and thenthe ideological and political education is faced with new opportunities and challenges. Withthe development of society and economy, culture blooms into diversity and universitystudents’ ideology and morality become more variable, independent and diverse. The singleapplication of dominant education is difficult to satisfy the requirements of it, which requiresthe full use of recessive education in colleges and universities and exploration of effectivemethod of recessive education. Recessive education, as a supplement to the dominanteducation, makes up the deficiency of the dominant education, adapts to the contemporaryuniversity students’ ideological characteristics, and avoids antagonistic psychology fromstudents. It maximizes the function of ideological and political education.This paper researches the recessive education methods in higher education andsummarizes four functions of recessive education. The author embarks from the reality,combines with the status quo, trend and existing problems of recessive education in collegesand universities and draws lessons from the education experience of foreign universities.Foreign universities emphasize the cross effect of various disciplines, the influence of theenvironment, the role of extracurricular activities and social force, which should be used forreference in our country. Based on the above research, this paper attempts to explore the newapproaches of recessive education. Firstly, adapt to the changes of the ideological and politicaleducation environment. Secondly, from the relationship between teachers and students,physical environment and ideological environment these three aspects create a harmoniousrecessive education environment. Thirdly, explore an effective education approach. Theauthor uses peer groups as this paper’s innovation points, to explore peer groups’ stimulation to ideology and morality formation of students. Finally, this paper draws lessons from foreignexperience and applies these advanced experiences in China.
