Scientific literacy plays an important part in the overall quality of the high school students, which is not only to develop the students’ scientific literacy meet but also the needs of social development and the development of life science. After the new curriculum reform, one of the key teaching goals is to help develop a biological science literacy. Nowadays there are many high school students’ biological science literacy research from other provinces and cities. This article selects high school students in Tianjin as the object of the study sample, using High School Biology Scientific Literacy Questionnaire to test and diagnose all participants. The questionnaire included five dimensions of scientific knowledge, scientific ability, scientific method, scientific awareness, and scientific quality. According to the data of the survey, the Tianjin students biological sciences literacy compared with other provinces and cities is in the middle level, which needs improving. What’s more, among different level schools the Biological Sciences Literacy in key middle schools is better than that in ordinary middle school in one district. Next, the schools affected by the examination-oriented education for the degree pay more attention to the scientific knowledge than others. With the grade up, the growth of students’ scientific literacy has been improved. The interest in learning influences the biological science literacy of middle school students. To make full use of multimedia and other modern teaching methods help students build biological science literacy. The needs to further improve the analysis of some of the problems that may exist in the traditional secondary education, and on the basis of the survey data, some reasonable suggestions for reference are stated in the last part of this article.
