The principal plays an important role in the survival and the development of the school, also in the growth and the development of the young generation. In a sense, electing a competent principal equals making a school become effective. Therefore the selection and appointment of the principal is extremely important in the educational administration, in addition, it is an important premise and safeguard to improve the quality of teaching comprehensively. The study analyses and discusses the characters about the appointment standards of primary and secondary school principals’ selection between China and America. On the foundation of this comparison, the author points out some disadvantages about the appointment standards of primary and secondary school principals’ selection in China. The author also puts forward some suggestions to improve and perfect the appointment standards of primary and secondary school principals’ selection in China.The study is divided into five chapters. In chapter1, the author explains the background of the selected topic, the content of the study, the research methods, basic concepts and the literature review. In chapter2, the author explains the foundation and content of the American Standards for School Leaders, meanwhile the development of the appointment standards of primary and secondary school principals’selection in China, In chapter3, the author analyses and discusses the characters about the appointment standards of primary and secondary school principals’selection between China and America. In chapter4, on one hand, the author analyses the limitations of the background of the appointment standards of primary and secondary school principals’selection in China. On the other hand, the author analyses the deficiency of the appointment standards of primary and secondary school principals’ selection in China, such as the deficiency of the principals’ credentials system, different appointment standards, disordered process of selecting principles and the insufficient supervision. In chapter5, the author puts forward some suggestions to improve and perfect the appointment standards of primary and secondary school principals’ selection in China. For example, giving full consideration to the environmental foundation before establishing the appointment standards, establishing the principals’ credentials system, establishing clear principals’appointment standards, making an ordered process of selecting principles and setting up the principals’selection committee.
