Classroom teaching ability is that the teacher shows a series of capabilities in the classroom teaching activities, in order to guarantee the teaching successful and achieve the desired teaching goal. In school for mentally retarded children, teachers’classroom teaching ability is not only the important factors that affect the teaching quality and effect, but also the key factors influencing the mentally retarded students’All-round development of physically and mentally. Therefore, it is vital significance that researching the present situation of classroom teaching ability of the teachers in school for mentally retarded children.In this paper, using self-questionnaire "Summary sheet of the classroom teaching ability of teachers in school for mentally retarded children", Selecting15classroom teachers as the research object at Rixin school (school for mentally retarded children) in Xigang district in Dalian, Observing36classes, researching the six aspects of the ability that includes mastering the teaching material ability, using teaching methods ability, expressing language ability, managing students’behavior ability, teacher-student interaction ability, teaching style ability in classroom teaching. Explore the overall level status of teachers’classroom teaching ability in school for mentally retarded children, and in-depth research the overall level of each dimension of classroom teaching ability; Analysis of the specific situation of each dimension of teachers’classroom teaching ability in school for mentally retarded children; And compare language teachers, math teachers with other courses in the classroom teaching ability to get differences.We got the following conclusions through the investigation and analysis:1. Teachers’classroom teaching ability in general is in medium level who are from school for mentally retarded children; The dimensions from high to low is master teaching ability, language ability, teaching ability, teachers and students interaction ability, student behavior management ability and teaching style;2. The ability to grasp teaching material, student behavior management and the interaction between teachers and students is good; but demonstration method, non-language power of expression and humorous teaching style are not good;3. The classroom teaching ability of teachers in language lessons, mathematics lesson and other courses is comparable level.According to the above conclusions, this study suggests:1. Pay attention to the training of teachers’ ability of classroom teaching in the details in school for mentally retarded children;2. Improve teachers’ ability of nonverbal expression in school for mentally retarded children;3. Encourage teachers of school for mentally retarded children to show the discipline characteristic of classroom teaching;4. Strengthen the application of multimedia in classroom teaching.From the practical perspective, this study explores the current situation for teachers’ classroom teaching ability in school for mentally retarded children through interview and classroom observation. It can provide data support to construct scientific and reasonable system of teachers’ classroom teaching ability; what’s more, it can provide effective basis for all departments and the social support system in teachers’ pre-service training and after training.
