Adolescence is defined as children gradually develop into adult transition, andalso defined as the critical period of development a person’s life. Adolescentbehaviors refer to four areas of conscious behavior and awareness, which are learning,communication, self-care, physical and emotional. Because of the shortcomings inmentally retarded children in the school for mentally retarded children.They are notadjusted to physical and psychological changes in the adolescence well. And they alsolead to a lot of inappropriate behaviors. Which is often affect to the effectiveness ofspecial education students in mental retardation and quality of their lives.This paper focuses on the mentally retarded children’s adolescent behaviorcharacteristics. And put forward in the corresponding measures of educationaccordance with the behavioral characteristics in specific performance. Hope for helpwith the School for mentally retarded children provide a reference to carry out thepositive and system of adolescent education and related courses. Aims to helpmentally retarded students retardation to adolescent physiological and psychologicalchanges and to improve the quality of the life and smooth puberty.In this paper, empirical research were carried on54mentally retarded studentsand68regular students, use the composing “Mentally retarded students behaviorsquestionnaire” and interviews with mentally retarded students and related teachers. Inthis study, statistics and analysis of the survey results and the interview results havebeen, the differences between mentally retarded students and general students inaspects of adolescent behaviors have been summed up, and general, gender and agecharacteristics of the adolescent behaviors have been singly analyzed and discussed.By the survey, in adolescence ordinary students and mentally retarded studentsare the same in learning behavior, but in communicative action, self-care behaviorsand physiological and emotional behavior, they are emerged as significant differences.Mentally retarded students will be slightly lower than ordinary students in adolescentbehaviors performance. And there are greater individual differences, too. Mentallyretarded students adolescent behavior show in learning methods, teacher-studentinteraction, peer interaction, the ability of self-care, self-care performance,physiological behaviors, etc. From age, mentally retarded students, who was in agegroup16-20, the adolescent behavior performed obviously than who was in age group10-15. From gender, all the adolescent behaviors are not significant. According to the results, researcher suggests that: attention mental retardedstudents’ Adolescence behavior demonstrated specificity; according to the mentalretarded students’ characteristic, developing the individualized education programs;seize the adolescent behavior occurs at a critical period to strengthen education;selection of different education method to carry out the education of adolescence.
