| Abstract:Primary English teaching has received dramatic progress as the further revolution has been carried out in Chinese elementary education. According to the New English Curriculum for Compulsory Education (the Trial Complementation Edition), there are goals not only set for developing children’s oral English and listening comprehension ability, but also set for developing children’s English-reading ability in primary English teaching. The children’s literature accomplishment of primary English teachers is quite significant to develop children’s English-reading ability. It’s take a long run to cultivate the children’s literature accomplishment. As the beginning stage of English teachers’ growth, the pre-service education plays a vital role in fostering their children’s literature accomplishment.Children’s literature accomplishment of English primary teachers refers to the overall master of English children’s literature characteristics, the understanding of children’s literature works and the skills to teach child to read children’s literature works. Children’s literature accomplishment of English primary teachers consists of the theoretical accomplishment, the reading accomplishment and the teaching accomplishment. Krashen’s Second Language Acquisition Theory, Schema Theory and Piadget’s Cognitive Development Theory provide theoretical basis for cultivating children’s literature accomplishment. The survey results display that the current children’s literature accomplishment of primary English teacher is not as expected. The current situation of the pre-service training of children’s literature accomplishment is not good in higher normal institutes. It’s advocated to foster children’s literature accomplishment at the pre-service stage by consolidating the curriculum of English children’s literature, accumulating the reading of children’s literature works and enhancing the teaching practice of children’s literature. |
