Competency model is a leading subject of organizational behavior and humanresource management theory and play a fundamental role for all kinds of talentselection and recruitment, training and development, performance management,compensation management. Competency research seeped into education industryin the2090s and the research of establishing different categories of teacherscompetency had become a hot spot, PE teachers competency is one of which.Geographically, Beijing has its special political and economic status andhistorical and cultural traditions; science segment, high school students arein a particular stage of development, physical education teachers of middleschool undertake specific teaching functions; the social and historicaldevelopment stage, the background of social development of universal physicaldecline give physical education teachers special social and historicalresponsibility. Based on the above factors, the aim of this study is thinkingalong the bottom and using qualitative research methods to explore thecompetency of Beijing’s middle school physical education teachers, lay thefoundation for subsequent quantitative research and mixed methods researchetc and give reference for the selection, recruitment, training anddevelopment of Beijing PE teachers and so on.In this study, twenty-three Beijing’s outstanding high school physicaleducation teachers are semi-structured interviewed and the average interviewlength are1.5hours.I use Nvivo8.0qualitative analysis software to analyzecontents of interview materials and construct competency model of Beijing’soutstanding high school physical education teachers after recording data intotexts.The results show: competency model of physical education teachers includesix systems: knowledge structure, ability structure, power systems,personality traits, ethics and value systems. They are:(1)Knowledge structure include sports expertise knowledge,generalexpertise knowledge and educational theory.(2)Ability structure include teaching ability, amateur training ability,career development ability, management ability and safety awareness. Teachingability include a dedicated and multi-skills, teaching basic skills,instructional design capabilities, teaching strategies and teacher-studentrelationship; career development capabilities include learning ability, professional growth, research and innovation ability; management capabilitiesinclude interpersonal skills and leadership ability.(3) Power systems include love sports, happy experience, job performance, andinternal drive.(4)Personality traits include responsibility, ambitious, aggressive,belligerent, self-confidence, tenacity, perseverance, self-concept clarity,health and optimist.(5)Ethics cultivation include law-abiding, good character, hard-working, lovesports, love teaching profession, study business, care and love students,dedication and words and deeds.(6)The value systems include sports view, student concept, fame concept andhappiness concept.By contrast, this study explores competency’s similarities and differencesof physical education teachers and teachers of other subjects, competency’ssimilarities and differences Beijing’s physical education teachers and PEteacher of other cities, competency’s similarities and differences of secondaryschool physical education teachers and other school segment PE teachers, therebydiscovering the uniqueness of Beijing’s middle school PE teachers competency.
