Ever since the Collapse of the Soviet Union in1991, the economictransformation and social reform have caused severe population crisis inRussia. Population of Russia has been declining during the past decadesand has just got minor rise in the end of2012. In2013, the birth ratesurpassed the mortality rate in Russia. Because of the two World Warsand the Collapse of the Soviet Union, male population is much less thanfemale. The proportion of the aged population over60years old hasalready been over18%, which means Russia has already been a seriouslyaging society. And this proportion keeps rising rapidly, the challengescaused by population aging in Russia is very severe. Regional disparity ofpopulation distribution is rising in Russia because of the economic andnatural and the unemployment rate is still quite high.The current thesis briefly analyzes the statistical data of Russianpopulation since2000, describing the population crisis faced by Russiaand analyzes the reasons for the crisis from the historic perspective,economic factors, customs and natural resources, etc. The thesissummarizes the policies Russia implemented to solve the populationproblems and their effects. The summaries are as follows: firstly, Russiais still suffering the population crisis; China and Russia see greatpotential in collaboration in the revitalization of Northeast China and Far East Russia.
