With the deepening the process of massification of higher education in China, it has been the theme of the time to enhance the quality of higher education, in which the enhancement of the talents cultivation quality is the most crucial and fundamental. Learning outcomes, as the criteria for evaluating the quality of talent cultivation, of are the important indicator to reflect the quality of higher education. According to the particularity of higher education resource distribution in China, exploring the present state and influence factors of learning outcomes of students in different types of colleges is an essential part of enhancing the quality of talent cultivation, and is the key research in the higher education.With the construction of learning outcome meter which is supported by the educational target taxology and the instruction of the model which is about how college affects students, this study is based on the data of National College Student Survey, aiming to formulate the present state of students’ learning outcomes in different types of colleges, and finding out what have affected the learning outcomes of students in those. What’s more, helpful suggestions about how to cultivate talents are also given to different types of collegesFollowing are the major conclusions of this study:First, the learning outcomes of students in different types of colleges are biased towards positive, but they still need to be improved. In addition, the feature of assessment of students in different types of colleges to each dimension of learning outcomes is convergent. It is represented that the mean value of the skill acquisition is the highest among the three dimensions of learning outcomes, the mean value of the acquisition of emotion, attitude and the opinion of value takes the second place, and the mean value of the cognition acquisition takes the third place. Second, the differences of students’ learning outcomes in different types of colleges appear that the mean value of self-reported learning outcomes of students in general colleges is lower than that of 985project universities and211project universities. Third, the achievement in high school has a significant influence on learning outcomes of students in different types of colleges. What’s more, it is the most influential factor among all the factors selected in this study. Forth, the learning outcomes of students in the colleges which have been allocated more educational resources get less influence from input variables. Fifth, there is little influence from input variables on learning outcomes of students in different types of colleges.Some suggestions are given as assumed by the findings of this study. First, each kind of colleges should pay attention to the quality education and make it reside in the professional education. Thus, neither of them will be fell behind. Second, the general colleges should clarify their orientation of applied university, according to their actual conditions, and develop the mode of talent cultivation that is fit for them. Third, each kind of colleges needs to consider their orientation and quality of undergraduate enrolled, to instruct students in their learning development. Forth, each kind of colleges needs to grasp the key factors that affect students’ learning, and focus on the variables in the process of learning.
