Survey On Academic Graduate Student's Learning Engagement

The quality of higher education has been a hot issue among researchers.With the reform and expansion of graduate education,the quality problem of graduate education is becoming more and more prominent.Learning quality is one of the core factors of education quality,and the learning engagement is an important standard to measure the quality of learning.Compared to very little researches about postgraduates' learning engagement,there are many researches about undergraduate students' learning engagement,and the research methods are mature.Based on the study of relevant theories of learning engagement,this research takes the Tianjin University(TU)as an example to survey TU's graduates in grade 1-3 using questionnaire and statistical analysis methods.According to three dimensions which are cognitive engagement,behavioral engagement and emotional engagement,the questionnaire contains five parts including “using learning strategy”,“professional curriculum learning”,“the relationship with classmates and tutors”,“learning exchange experience” and “campus environment experience” and students' self-evaluation on their learning outcomes.The research target is to know about postgraduates' learning engagement and learning outcomes at TU,and to explore the correlation between learning engagement and learning outcome.The main conclusions of this research include these following points: first,TU's postgraduates' learning engagement is in a high level;second,TU's postgraduates' learning outcome is also in a high level;third,the students who are in different gender,different subject category,different cross professional degree,their learning engagement is slightly different,and learning engagement presents significant difference on students who are from different grades and different professional curriculum courses.Fourth,the correlation of learning engagement and learning outcome is significantly positive.According to the survey results,combining with the actual situation of China's postgraduate education,this research proposes three suggestions:(1)to establish a concept of “taking quality improvement as the core”,and care about the development needs of graduate students;(2)to improve professional curriculum system,enrich and deepen students' professional knowledge;(3)to make sure educational resources sharing channels get through,and pay attention to cultivate graduate students' innovation ability.
