It is the basic premise of teacher’s professionaldevelopment to conduct the thorough research of teachers’professional development need so as to improve the pertinence,effectiveness of teacher training. In other words, it should bebased on a comprehensive understanding of teachers’professional development needs to develop teachers’professional development policy system and to plan teachers’in-service training programs in order to satisfy the rationalneeds of teachers’ professional development and promote theteacher professional development. Because of the short time ofChinese primary English and the uneven quality of primaryEnglish teachers, we invested a lot of resources to improve thelevel of primary school English teachers’ professionaldevelopment, and improve the quality of primary school Englishteaching. In fact, we have made some achievements that primary English teachers’ professional development has beengradually improved, but there are also some problems and theinsufficiency, for the ineffective research and analysis ofteachers’ professional development or sometimes we just takeit for granted to primary English teacher just ask for this or that.Based on the above reasons, we chose the "primary schoolEnglish teachers’ professional development needs" as the topicand try to fully understand and analyze the present state ofprimary school English teachers’ professional developmentneeds in order to improve the primary school English teachers’quality and promote the reform of primary school Englishcurriculum.This research adopts literature analysis method to combdomestic and foreign research results on the teachers’professional development needs. On the basis of this aspect,the author deeply analyzes the problems and defects existing inthe research area, and points out the future research tendency.Then, we adopt the interview method, questionnaire methodand narrative method. At the same time, we choose primaryschool English teachers from Changzhou, Jiangsu province asthe research object and analyze primary school Englishteachers’ professional development need. According to the Research, primary school English teachers’ understanding ofthe professional development is lack of the awakening ofself-consciousness and the demand for self, but teachers’reflection has become an important factor in the professionaldevelopment Among them, the teachers’ demand for specializedknowledge focus on phonetics, vocabulary, teaching knowledgeand intercultural knowledge, while knowledge for studentsphysical and mental development is sufficient. Teachers’demands for teaching ability, communicating with people inhuman, and research capacity are urgent. Demands for theconcept of professional teachers are in a reasonable scope,embodying in the correct profession idea and positiveprofessional view. Teachers’ self-development consciousness isstronger and autonomy in the professional development isplaced gradually, but still lacking the further study.In a word, primary school English teachers’ professionaldevelopment needs closely associate with the developmentneeds of students. Teachers have a relatively strong demand forprofessional ability. Rationality of professional developmentneeds is still under the further consideration, etc. Thus it isshould provide proper training content, make personaldevelopment plan for teacher, strengthen the consciousness of reflection in action research so as to meet the demand ofprimary school English teachers’ professional development andpromote the primary school English teachers’ professionaldevelopment.This paper mainly includes the following four parts:The first part is preface: mainly stated the origin andresearch value of the research topic; the paper analyzes theexisting relevant results and analysis. At the same time,research ideas and research methods are introduced.The second part is research design and implementation:mainly stated the process of research tool and the researchsample selection, describing the roadmap of theimplementation on questionnaire survey and interviews.The third part is the results of the research and analysis:presents and analyses the interview data and the results of thequestionnaire data statistics.The fourth part is research conclusion and suggestion:summed up the primary school English teachers’ professionaldevelopment needs of the empirical research conclusion, putforward some suggestions for the improvement of the primaryschool English teachers’ professional development level, andhave a reflection on the research.
