Chen Tingjing(1638—1712), who lived between the end of theMing Dynasty and the early years of the Qing Dynasty, was born ofgreat talents and greatly influenced by his excellent familybackground. His parents were so strict and kind that he had got agood knowledge of the traditional culture in China when he was young.Even so, Chen Tingjing was still so serious about his behavior andmorality and interested in political activities that today we are luckyto have one more prime minister who was versatile at so many fieldseven though he was in such a high political position of the wholecountry. He was dutiful and friendly to his families even if he wasfamous as a prime minister. He built the castle&mansion of PM so asto provide his families with such a good learning and living condition.He was also so upright and honest that he got such great success andwas spoken highly of by his peers and the later generations. It wasChen Tingjing who made an important difference to the formation of“the flourishing age of kangxi” by his own political practice. He onlypaid attention to the abilities and qualities of the candidates whenselecting new public servants. Chen Tingjing would like to acceptdifferent ideas when dealing with others about educational affairs, hewas so accustomed to reflect on himself according to others’opinions. In a word, we can learn a lot from him and he made a greatcontribution to the prosperity of our Chinese academic culture.As the prime minister of emperor kangxi, Chen Tingjing had lots of precious thoughts which we can learn from. So it is necessary for usto have a further understanding about his moral education thoughts.That helps us to grasp the ideological evolution of Chen Tingjing andhis wisdom of managing the government, regulating his family andself-cultivation. In conclusion, it is of great theoretical and practicalsignificance to have a complete analysis about him.Nowadays, with researches about the castle&mansion of PMgetting more and more popular, writings and journal articles about thestudy of Chen Tingjing at home are increasing one year after another.But all the contents of these researches are mainly about theliterature, classics, compilation and social politics of Chen Tingjing.The related researches about his thoughts, especially the moraleducation thoughts, are still few and far between. So my study willfocus on his moral education, combined with the architecturalcharacteristics of the castle&mansion of PM and the value of itsartifacts. I will use the methods of field investigation and literaturestudy to excavate original information about his moral educationthoughts. On the basis of statements above, we will get a detailedsummary of his moral education thoughts. My paper includes fourparts. The first one will show the reasons why I chose this topic, thesummaries of my paper, some conceptions that must be known aheadof time, my research methods and the new ideas I get from myresearch, all of these are to make some preparations for the main partof my paper. The second part will show the background of his moraleducation thoughts from five aspects, they are the political situationof the years he lived in, the cultural atmosphere at that time, thehistory of his hometown and his excellent family background. Thethird part is about the details of his moral education thoughts. And thefourth one will tell us the social influence of his thoughts. The lastpart is about what kind of useful points that Chen Tingjing’s moral education thoughts include for today’s moral education.
