Presently,the class teaching is still the dominant form of the universityteaching organization, the disadvantages of traditional class teaching has becomeincreasingly apparent. With high attention to the quality of higher education, andthe improvement of the quality of higher education research has increasedgradually, reforming teaching organization form and improving the quality ofteaching gradually become a social focus area of research and the important topicresearch of education researchers. According to the present university teachingsituation and the training goal of the university teaching, the author put forwardsmall group teaching as the development and reforming of the university teachingorganization form. Compared with the traditional class teaching system, smallgroup teaching has advantages of small class size and low student-faculty ratios.Small group teaching takes students as the main body, pays attention to students’personality cultivation and initiative and creative play, students and teachers orstudents and students interact frequently, teaching form and teaching evaluation arediversity and personality. It has difference with other teaching organizations suchas Seminar, Sharon and group instruction. In order to exercise the students’comprehensive skills, develop comprehensive talents, reform teaching organizationforms, and improve the university’ teaching quality, it is necessary for university toimplement the small group teaching. Small group teaching put students in the firstplace, it reflects equality of learning opportunity and humanistic education values.It is internal calls for higher education and the requirement of era development.Small group teaching in university has a solid theoretical basis and urgent realisticbasis, which provides the necessity of research. In order to make the small groupteaching feasible, this paper detailed discusses the concrete operation process ofsmall group teaching in the university. First it is necessary to make detail andcomprehensive plan, including the target, content and environment, and thenthrough a particular topic discussion, case study and analysis, based on the problemof learning, situational teaching and practice practice and other teaching methodsto organize teaching. In classroom teaching it will inevitably be have someunpredictable situation, which needs the teacher to manage student, group and theteaching environment in time to ensure effective teaching. For the assessment ofteaching effectiveness, it is necessary to evaluate students’ learning and teachers’ teaching. To sum up, the implementation of small group teaching has six steps,including decision-making, guide, observation, investigation, evaluation andcontinuing. Finally, in the form of case describe classroom teaching processspecific. This paper discussed the plan, organization, management and evaluationof small group teaching from macroscopic, to medium concrete implementationsteps of small group teaching, and then to micro group of teaching case, layer uponlayer, to discuss the feasibility and unique advantages of small group teaching.Considering the small group teaching developed from foreign teaching organizationform, the implementation of small group teaching in current situation andbackground of university teaching in China will have some difficulties. Thesedifficulties includes the class size, traditional teaching concept, systems, teachingconditions, curriculum provision, the quantity and quality of teachers. According tothese problems, the author put forward to solutions to make the implementation ofsmall group teaching more in line with China’s actual situation of universityteaching. The implementation of small group teaching needs to combine with theother factors that affect the teaching, such as a change of perspective, the systemsupport, the cooperation of all staff.
