Scientific literacy means to recognize and understand certain scientific knowledge andprinciples; to solve problems encountered in life through scientific means and methods; tofrom the empirical respect, cooperation awareness, critical thinking and other scientificattitude. Scientific literacy can be divided into three aspects, namely interrelated scientificknowledge, scientific method, scientific attitude. Now, the society is experiencing an era whenscience and technology is highly developing, science and technology influence to people’sincreasing. Therefore, the importance of scientific literacy should be relatively conspicuous. History as a comprehensive subject, has distinctive advantages in cultivating the students’scientific literacy.This paper discusses the basic scientific literacy and basic concepts of structure, putsforward some appropriate countermeasures to solve the problems, and from the porspective ofscientific knowledge, scientific method and scientific attitude, which existed in scienceliteracy’s cultivation. This paper mainly discusses the following aspects. The first partdescribes the concepts of science, literacy and scientific literacy. The second part analyses theimportance of scientific literacy to school students in middle school history teaching. Thethird part, elaborates theoretical basis on cultivating students, scientific literacy in middleschool history teaching, from the scientific nature of history and history teaching and frominherent requirement of curriculum standards. The fourth part, in terms of the problemsinvestigated, the paper proposes several strategies in order to cultivate students scientificliteracy.
