Workshop On Community Research Community Social Functions Performed

With the rapid development of economy and the huge transformation of social system, social work has found a way into every part of people’s life. Accordingly, the corresponding institution of social work—social work studio has been established in communities. Currently, It is still at an initial stage of exploration with regard to the function of such studios upon the life of residents. Based on the study of social organizations and the role social work studio can play in these organizations, this paper aims to have a functional study of the social work studio.Based on the community development theory as well as the community work theory, this paper selects Community H in Xian as the research target. The research methods such as surveys, questionnaires, and interviews, etc. are used to explore into the community resources and the organizations so that the target regions can be properly selected. The research makes good use of the result from the initial stage and adopts a method of practical exploration. It shows that the social work studio can assist the particular community to dig up its resources and establish its own internal rules. Throughout the research, the studio is proved to be efficient in helping the community to sum up the various ways of cultivation and of offering services of different kind. As a result, the research has verified and revised the pre-designed program and has worked out a set of cultivation methods. The paper makes a careful analysis of the functions and roles of the social work studio upon the social organizations. It comes to the conclusion that the positioning of the studio does not lie in an institutional organizer, but in a multi-purpose role of planning and coordinating various community resources and organizational activities, and providing the necessary resources. A symbiotic relation is supposed to be set up between the social studio and other general organizations.As to the questions relevant to the research, the paper makes a SWOT analysis of the surface problems. It goes further to touch upon and examines the major determining factors in terms of policies and regulations. It discusses the deep-seated problems concerning the policies, the organization, the administration, and the current system. Apart from that, the paper puts forward a few solutions to these problems by resorting to the theoretical assumptions in the available literature, and by utilizing many typical cases from some regions across the country in their successful programs of constructing communities. Therefore, good suggestions are proposed in this paper as a great contribution to community construction.
