Thrift is the traditional virtue of Chinese nation and the basic moral accomplishment which our modern citizens should have."Thrift can cultivate virtue", thrift is an important value for the perfection of moral personality and the formation of good social atmosphere. However, as one of the important group of citizens, university students lack of virtue of thrift."Symbolic consumption","Comparisons consumption","Pre-mature consumption" and other irrational consumption have quietly entered the lives of university students. The phenomenon of waste is filled with the entire campus, and even some of the students regard "thrift is shame, but waste is glorious" as a value orientation and code of ethical conduct. The conception of thrift culture on campus is faced with serious challenge. It should be a theoretical and practical problem in the university students’citizen education to the deep analysis and study on the education of thrift about university students.The paper contains the following three parts:The first part systematically discusses the cultural resources of thrift. This part excavates thrift cultural resources of Chinese from three aspects:thrift is a traditional virtue of Chinese nation, thrift is the Party’s fine tradition and style, thrift is the basic ethical standards of citizens. It also refines thrift cultural resources of western from thrift virtues, thrift tools to thrift systems. On this basis, this paper further explores the era connotation and era value of thrift.The second part argues for the value of thrift education to university students from two parts, one part is from the serious lack of virtue of thrift on university students, the other part is from perfection of moral personality of university students.The third part puts forward advice on thrift education to university students. First, Colleges and Universities should regard ideological and political theoretical courses as the main channel in order to increase thrift moral cognition of university students. Second, they should carry out thrift experience education to inspire students’thrift moral emotion. Third, they should establish related systems on thrift to strengthen university students’thrift moral will. Last, they should create a thrifty atmosphere for university students to cultivate thrift moral habits.
