In today’s world, the reform of examination and evaluation system is one of the important content of educational reform. In recent years, China has unveiled a series of policies and documents that demand evaluation not only focuses on students’ academic performance, but also develops students’potential, knows their development needs, lays the foundation for students’comprehensive and long-term development. Thus, research on examination and evaluation would enrich our understanding of its objective, content, form and so on.As the important gist of the university admissions, GCE A-Level has broad effects in domestic of the UK and the world, GCE A-Level physics examination is quite different from China’s college entrance examination of physics in the aspects of setting, scheme, form and content. This research selects the physical examination papers from2010to2013of AQA, by means of investigation, text analysis and statistics, then conducts a study on GCE A-Level physics examination. Research one makes a holistic study on test questions of GCE A-Level physics examination, including examination profile and question content (situational sources, examination of subject theme and different knowledge sectors), research two makes study on the assessment of investigative and practical skills. This research finally gets the following conclusions:(1)The conduct of GCE A-Level physics examination is divided into several units, different units takes different proportion in total score. In A-Level,the proportion of unit1-. unit2、unit4and unit5is20%respectively,unit3and unit6is10%respectively.(2)Situational sources of test questions mainly include life reality, sports, technology application, science frontier and history of physics. (3) The examination of subject theme in each unit is comprehensive on the whole, but has emphasis.(4)For the examination of different knowledge sectors, in AS Level, proportion from large to small is mechanics, atomic physics, electromagnetism, light and wave, doesn’t involve thermology; in A-Level, proportion from large to small is mechanics, electromagnetism, atomic physics, applied physics, light and wave, thermology.(5)The assessment of investigative and practical skills has following characteristics:①provides two assessment routes:teacher assessed and externally marked;②considers daily performance, examines students’ ability;③has normative assessment, lays emphasis on reliability;④has appropriate elasticity while carrying out.
