Chen Dong-yuan (1902-1978) who is a famous scholar in education historian. He was born in Hefei, An-hui Province, and he wrote 《The history of Chinese women’s lives》 and 《The history of education in China》 in1930s. Chen dong-yuan also has closely relation with Hushi and Chen du-xiu,besides he made great progress in history of education and women’s education. Positivism historiography research methods embodied clearly in the writings of Chen Dong-yuan’s books. So the conclusion and talk on Chen dong-yuan’s research of educational history will not only improve his education research,it will give some beneficial experience for the research of education in today and it will also enrich the theory in education history fields.This paper could be divided into five sections:The introduction section, which outlined the situation of Chen dong-yuan’s thoughts and inform the selection reasons, current research, research purposes and the methods used of this thesis.The first part of the body is about the history of Chen dong-yuan’s research experience in educational history. He deliver the responsibility of probing the educational reform by himself given by the history because of his anxious about the education condition in that time.The second part is to analysis his historical concept of knowing today from the history and his understanding the function of historical methods from the opinion of the history’s function.The third part is about how Chen dong-yuan do his research on educational history. The study, basis on the actual condition, will mainly talk about the following subjects by the orders:how he probed the law of causal in China’s education history fields? How he proved these educational affairs and positivism in the study of the history of its educational feature for a careful analysis and discussion.The fourth part of the text, combined with the characteristics of education history of Chen dong-yuan study, evaluating it objectively and to analyze its significance.
