Postgraduate education is the highest level in the whole education process,undertaking the dual task of providing innovative talents and improving science andtechnology, which is a fundamental and significant way of enhancing science andtechnology as well as our overall national strength and is of great significance to thedevelopment of our country and society. With the rapid development of postgraduateeducation, the quality of it is gaining increasing attention among the whole society. Thereare a lot of complex factors influencing the postgraduate education. The most obvious oneis the relationship between postgraduates and their supervisors. Through years’ bilateralefforts by the postgraduates and the supervisors, a good relationship between postgraduatesand their supervisors plays a leading role in the postgraduate education, which improvesthe level of postgraduate education. However, conflicts and contradictions are increasingbecause there are not enough effective interactions. The establishment of effectiveinteraction between postgraduates and supervisors is necessary to postgraduate educationas well as to the research-based goal of building a world-class university. This thesis,choosing postgraduates and supervisors as objects, includes introduction, analysis andresults of the relationship between postgraduates and their supervisors and construction ofideal relationship between postgraduates and supervisors. This thesis analyzes the graduatestudents’ level of satisfaction to supervisors from four dimensions on the basis of theresearch of the current relationship between them. The dimensions include thepostgraduates’ satisfaction to supervisors, their satisfaction to supervisors’ academicguidance as well as career guidance, and their satisfaction to the involvement insupervisors’ projects. Besides, this thesis compares the respondents’ basic information andits influence on the relationship between graduate students and supervisors; it also analyzesstudents’ anticipation of an ideal supervisor. As a result, the thesis reaches the conclusionthat different backgrounds, grades, disciplines and interests have an obvious influence on the relationship as well as the communication way and frequency. On the basis of thisconclusion, the thesis puts forward that the construction of an ideal relationship betweenpostgraduates and their supervisors should take the aspects of postgraduates themselves,supervisors and related system into consideration. Only by this, the ideal relationshipbetween postgraduates and their supervisors can come true.
