Investigation Into The Mandarin Teaching Program In Bangka Island

Indonesia have17,508comprised of islands. It is also one of the most populous countries in the world. Being a home for more than200million people, Indonesia is in top four most populated countries. Its citizens comprise indigenous Muslim Indonesians who make up the88.2per cent of the population, and other religion beholders including ethnic Chinese minority, numbering more than8million people.Bangka island, which is also my hometown, is chosen as the place for conducting this research. Among many schools in Bangka, SMK Bakti has the majority students of ethnic Chinese, and it has a Chinese lesson program in its curriculum. Yet, there were just few researches on this school. I specified my research data on the third grade class. I focused my survey on the the teacher’s teaching system, and the learning system of the students. In addition to that, I gave some feedbacks and meaningful input for the students’ learning method and quality, the teaching system, and so on. Throughout my research, I found the hindrances and problems of teaching and learning Mandarin in Bangka island, and managed to get some potential solutions for the better Mandarin teaching system in SMK Bakti.This thesis comprises of five chapters, in which chapter one explains about the background of this research, reasons for conducting research, purpose of research, benefits of research, and method of research. The description and background of SMK Bakti3grade class are elaborated in chapter two. In chapter three I depict about the teaching method as well as the Mandarin teacher’s qualification. Meanwhile, the background students and their learning method will be analyzed in chapter four. The last chapter provides feedbacks and strategies for challenges in learning method of the students’, and the effective teaching system.
