The rapid economic development in China is accompanied by the worsening problem of aging population. The fifth demographic census shows that China has entered an aging society. According to the sixth demographic census, the population with the age of over60amounts to167million, taking up13.26%of the total population; the rate of people over65, however, reaches8.87%, showing an inevitable trend of aging population in modern China.Against the backdrop of the accelerated trend of aging population, small family structure and the weakening function of home-based care for the aged, supporting the aged people has become one of the unavoidable issues. The special aged people within this group, in particular, have special demands in this regard. Under such circumstances, society, government and family have been made the focus in resolving this problem. Along with the development of modern society, the aged people’s demand for endowment has become an issue of great concent and turned from the original simplified demand to diversified demand. In general, their demands are divided into demands for material needs and spiritual needs. The unbalanced distribution of endowment resources have resulted in the enormous financial pressure facing many aged people and their great demands for materials. In light of the change in the family structure in modern society, the family structure of many aged people has become smaller. The aged people with serious disease suffer from not only the financial burdens but also spiritual pressures, thus requiring more material relief as well as spiritual carings. The elderly with physical disabilities shall be provided with both material assistance and spiritual carings to alleviate of their physical misery.Based on the Baohe District, an administrative region in Hefei, his investigation offers an analysis of the special aged people’s needs and their current living actuality through a household questionnaire survey of the six kinds of special aged people (aged people living alone, empty nest elderly, aged people without a family, aged people with low income, with serious disease and with physical disabilities) from Baohe District. With the one-by-one analysis and observation, this paper tries to gain a better understanding of the problems facing the special elderly people in modern society and find out the way of addressing these issues. It also investigates the endowment demands and the living actuality of the aged people through the professional perspective of the social workers in the community. The facts that the investigation reflects help people gain a deep understanding of the old-age support demand, enabling people to propose the countermeasures and suggestions.
