The Development Of Kunming Old University Under The Background Of Aging

The aging population has become a global issue as well as an urgent one to be dealt with in the development of Chinese society.An aged community is quite a challenge,to which senior aged education is a resort.Senior aged education as part of adult continuing education and the last stage of life-time education,is an organic complement toward a study-oriented society and an ideologically and culturally improved nation,as well as an approach to enrich the life of the senior aged and a way to explore the senior aged human resources.With the social and economical development of Chinese society and improved education level of the senior citizens,senior aged education will become an important method to meet the spiritual and cultural need of the senior citizens.As capital of Yunnan province,Kunming is located in the southwestern border area of China,a remote area with many ethnic groups.Compared with capital cities of other provinces,senior aged education and colleges for senior citizens in Kunming are still at the initial stage.In contrast to the less developed senior aged education,Kunming is one of the cities in China that facing an aging community in an early stage.Nowadays there is a quite large population of senior citizens.Therefore,it is in urgent need to develop senior citizen education.New develop methods need to be explored,and approaches should be enriched to make the aged group an impetus instead of resistance to the development of Kunming.This study is based on the theories of hierarchy of demands and lifelong education theories.It studies the present situation of senior citizen education in Kunming city using data from multiple channels.In the context of the present status of the aged population and the current developing situation of colleges for senior citizens,it analyses the problems facing colleges of senior citizens,and accordingly present solutions in reference of advanced experience domestically and abroad.The senior aged education in Kunming city has accomplished certain achievements,but still some basic problems exist,like “a generally insufficient population of practitioners in the senior aged education domain,under-developed infrastructure,unbalanced development level,insufficient opportunities and monotonous development mode”.To address these problems,this study proposes the following suggestions.First comes an ideological change.We need to pay more attention to senior aged education,motivate more senior aged groups to participate,thus promote senior aged education to the acceptance of the public society.Secondly,public policies need to play an active role to lead the public in order to accelerate construction of the discipline system of senior aged education.Lastly,a market-oriented economic angle should be adopted,as social resources should be employed to enrich the ways to run schools.We should build the senior aged education as an industry in Kunming.It is necessary to cultivate and improve the market service system for senior aged education,therefore speed up the development of the senior aged education industry based on the demand of the market.
