The aging of population is a trend of global population growth. The changes of aging groups have a wide and profound impact on various aspects of the living of human beings in the new century. China, the most populous nation, became a country with the largest number of aged population at the turn of the century. The aged in China covers one fifth of those in the world. As for China, the number of aged population in rural areas has surpasses that in urban areas. Compared with those in cities, the aged in rural areas don't get much security in economic welfare, health-caring and living attendance. So the key to solving problems related to the aged lies in rural areas.The paper states the present rural situation: a large number of aging population; fast economic growth; imbalanced regional development. And factors contributed to the rural aging population, such as birthrate, mortality rate, migration rate, were analyzed. Some realistic problems existed in taking care of the old were also analyzed from the respects of health caring and psychological caring.In view of the big challenge and of the great influence of the rural aging population on china's economy and social stability, the paper lists some corresponding counter-measures: enhancing the practice of taking care of the old by family members; strengthening moral publicity; modifying birth control policy; improving social and medical security; furthering the construction of a new rural area.
