There are three main curriculum modes:the national curriculum, local curriculum and school-based curriculum. In western countries, the school-based curriculum is one of the most important course patterns. But for a long time China was a country with a single course mode, that is, national curriculum. After the economic system reform, the development of education is lagging behind. In order to change the single national curriculum pattern and train high quality talents, in1999, the government decided to establish three grade curriculum management, that is, national curriculum, local curriculum and school curriculum.The school-based curriculum is the important content of the new curriculum reform. After more than ten years of development, in the primary and secondary schools in some big cities, the school-based curriculum development is relatively mature and perfect. But in the suburban schools and rural schools that are under great pressure of the college entrance examination, the teaching ideas are still mainly examination-oriented and the school-based curriculum still has a long way to go.This dissertation takes Jiang Xia Senior High School as an example, which is a typical suburban high school and is also faced with the same dilemma. But in recent years, a growing number of innovative teachers in this school have been exploring new approaches to teaching and developing a series of school-based teaching resources to improve teaching and learning to adapt to the actual situation of school and the students.In this paper, focus will be on the work of the English teaching and research group and how school-based teaching materials were explored and developed.In general, three stages are experienced:The first stage:"Use Doctrine"(before2007). In this period, teachers directly bought teaching material with good reputation from the market.The second stage:the development of school-based teaching material (since2007). Teachers have worked together to develop a series of school-based teaching materials based on the college entrance examination work since2007.The third stage:the development of school-based teaching textbook (since2013). After using the school-based teaching materials, the English teaching in this school has considerably improved and it has fundamentally reversed the unfavorable situation of English teaching. With the successful experience, teachers decided in2013to explore and develop English school-based textbook named "Celebrity Speech Appreciation" to promote the students ’reading ability and stimulate students’ interest in English learning. In these several years of research and exploration, the methods and principles about how to research and develop the school-based teaching resources have been carefully studied and the material has proved its teaching efficiency. So, in practice, the research provides practical guidance for the suburban and rural high schools to develop and utilize the school-based teaching resources to improve teachers’ teaching achievement and students’ English literacy and skills. At the same time, the school-based research also provides a feasible way for teachers’ professional development.There are some limitations in the project and the research.Firstly, in this paper, only one school (Jiangxia Senior High School) is used as the research object, which leads to the sidedness of the conclusion.Secondly, because this research is based on the personal participation and practice, the conclusion will inevitably have a certain individual subjectivity.Thirdly, this study is aimed at senior3students and it fails to run through the whole process of English teaching in senior middle school. So the result may not be perfect and can’t reflect the overall situation of English teaching.Fourthly, because of the limited research level and theoretical knowledge, some results of the research may not be scientific.
