Early Exploration And Practice Of The Chinese Modern University System

The national medium and long-term education reform and development planoutline (2010-2020) putted forward the requests for building modern universityinstitution. Building modern university institution is not only the hotspot in researchof pedagogy, but also the critical issue we have to solve immediately. Figure out whatare the modern university institution and its characteristics will have very importanttheoretical significance and practical significance to discuss modern universityinstitution in today’s society. Through the study of the early exploration and practiceof Chinese modern university institution, taking Southwest Associated University forexample, the conditions of that period’s Chinese excellent universities were moreconform to the requirements of the outline.This paper used a thinking process as clarifying the problem, analyzing theproblem and solving the problem. By the literature method, comparison method andother research methods, this paper used five chapters to discuss early exploration andpractice of Chinese modern university institution. Specific as follows:The first chapter is the introduction. This chapter mainly elaborates backgroundof the subject, research significance, research method and literature review, also putsforward author’s own views.The second chapter mainly introduces the definition and structure of the modernuniversity institution. This chapter provides detailed information on the definition andcharacteristics of the modern university institution, and generalizes two fundamentalcharacteristics of the modern university institution.The third chapter describes the formation and development of “academicfreedom” in Chinese universities before the Anti-Japanese War. This chapter dwellson the Southwest Associated University’s inheritance and practice of that conceptfrom both teaching and research aspects, and makes an evaluation and a summary ofthe period of academic freedom, especially the Southwest Associated Universityperiod.The fourth chapter describes the development situation of “university autonomy”in Chinese universities before the Anti-Japanese War. Southwest AssociatedUniversity adhered to highlight “university autonomy” in university management byprofessors and intellectual autonomy. This paper also makes a summary for thisperiod of “university autonomy”.The fifth chapter discusses the valuable experiences and lessons obtained in the early days of exploration and practice of Chinese modern university institution, andcombines with the present situation to put forward some countermeasures for theconstruction of building modern university institution.
