The Study Of The Impact Of Chengdu’s Floating Population On Economic Growth

As a special capital factor, human capital plays a very important role to economic growth, its positive influence cannot be neglected. In recent years, Sichuan Province makes great effort in promoting industrialization and urbanization. During this process, the population movement as the basic dynamic is necessary. And the effective floating population will bring enormous positive effects on the region’s economic growth. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan Province with a high level of economic development, so the phenomenon of population movements is very obvious. It is important to give this phenomenon enough attention. And the study of this process has important significance on economic growth.In this paper, I will combine demography, economics knowledge and take literature analysis, empirical analysis to give a research on the effect of Chengdu’s floating population on its economic growth. And then, base on the result and Chengdu’s features, give some related policy recommendation of the controlling population movement and the floating population management.The results of this study obtain the following points. Population movements makes a great contribution on Chengdu’s economic growth. Since the second and third industry had a rapid development in nearly10years, there was a great demand for labor, the supply of migrants just meet this demand. In addition, the inflow and the city’s floating population make a outstanding contribution. They enhance the overall quality of education of Chengdu, bring a demographic dividend to Chengdu, relieve the aging trend and make up the local people’s employment gaps. The great number of rural labor move to urban brings the process of urbanization and industrialization speed up increasingly. Otherwise, as a immigration city, there is little people outflow from Chengdu, so its impact on economic growth is also smaller. While the positive effects of population movements, there are also some negative factors, such as the increasing of financial supply pressure, urban employment pressure increased, urban management become more difficult and so on.For the analysis above, the paper proposes some policy recommendations on population movement control and floating population management to Chengdu. Such as the control recommendations of population size, the regulation suggestions of floating population structure. What’s more, to improve the service management level of floating population, to promote people-oriented reforms, to improve the legal system and to improve the management system.
