Music teaching practices of higher normal university students in China has seen many ups and downs during its development, and now it is gradually becoming more mature and stable. However, new challenges that have come up along with China’s educational reform require continuous improvement. New teaching concepts and new evaluation systems brought up by curriculum reform strongly impact the education system and teaching models in higher normal universities. Therefore, higher and better demands are placed on the music teaching practices of those universities.The class evaluation is of great importance for interns’ professional development, for it is an essential way to achieve professional maturity, and a significant approach to gain inspirations and feedbacks from experienced teachers in internship schools. The fundamental aim of class evaluation is not about evaluating the results of class teaching activities, rather, it is a way of figuring out problems, giving full play to the positive guiding role of experienced teachers, thus promoting the healthy development of the interns’classroom teaching activities and realizing their pursuit of professional development. Collective class evaluation during music teaching practices can help interns understand their teaching concepts and behaviors through evaluation both by themselves and others, and then develop correct values and habit of teaching.This research has adopted a qualitative-research with means of instrumental case study methods and has conducted a participatory research on the collective class evaluation of music teaching practices in F school (a practice base of Southwest University). Based on the results, the paper discusses the characteristics and insufficiencies of the collective class evaluation of music teaching practices, and offers corresponding suggestions. By doing this, the study attempts to draw attention from related departments and people, to attach greater importance to class evaluation of teaching practices and to provide a research perspective for further study, thus improving the quality of teaching practices and meeting the demands of intern teachers for professional development. The structure of the paper is as follows,The introduction part talks about the background, aims and research significance of the study. Chapter One is a literature review about the current study. Chapter Two mainly explains the qualitative-research oriented, means of instrumental case study methods, objects of study, data collection and research limitations. Chapter Three and Four illustrates and analyzes the collective class evaluation by observation and interviews. Chapter Five provides a discussion of the characteristics and insufficiencies of the collective class evaluation of music teaching practices, and offers corresponding suggestions.
