Nowadays, with the increase of population in our country, the number of single-parentfamilies is also on the rise year by year, and this, in turn, children of single-parent familiesis becoming more and more become the focus of public attention. Due to the family, theinfluence of such factors as living environment, there are some single parent familieschildren often affect the normal social psychological or personality traits, such as lowself-esteem, introverted, withdrawn, reverse, etc.This study mainly talks about14childrenfrom single-parent families as the research object in S community in Suzhou. Providingcounseling services at the beginning, and observing their daily behaviors with theknowledge from the parent or guardian, this study finds that children from single-parentfamilies have serious deficiencies in social skills.Under the above background, firstly this study will analyze reasons on the deficiencyof social skill of children from single-parent families. Secondly group activities will try tohelp these children to improve their social skills, which are guided by the professionalsocial work theory and working method from the perspective of social work. This study ofS community in Suzhou discusses how team work as a positive factor improves the socialskills of children from single-parent families. Finally, this study will assess and reflect onthe effect of intervention of the social work for improving the social skills of children fromsingle-parent families, and give advices to contribute to these.Achievements of this study show that group work has real effects on improving thesocial skills of children from single-parent families theoretically and practically.
