School-age is an important stage for the growth of children, and it is also a crucial period for the characterization of adolescent’s psychology and behavior. As a vulnerable group, school-age stage is much important for children who brought up in single parent families. Poor interpersonal skills are common problems of these children in single parent families, it has severely affected the mental health and perfect personality of them. Their families were broken for various causes, lacking of proper family care caused their fear of contact with the outside world. Thus it can be seen that it’s important for the school-age children who come from single parent families to cultivate the ability of interpersonal communication. We need to provide these children love and care, as they need the compassion assists from their families, schools and society; and they also need the professional assists from the social workers. Every member of the society cannot passing the buck.This thesis focuses on the issues of promoting the interpersonal skills of school-age children who brought up in single parent families. Based on the investigation of these school-age children in single parent families, which is a vulnerable groups, according to social work professional concept, utilizing the theories such as "mirror in the self" theory, Group Dynamics Theory, Theory of Cognitive Development and Social Learning Theory, adopting the method of Group Work, using six abilities such as personnel memory, interpersonal understanding, and interpersonal imagination, demeanor and expression force, cooperation capacity and coordination capacity which was considered as the key, designing and implementing seven group activities. And all these above increased the interpersonal skills of the team members gradually.Based on the evaluation and summary of the group work, the author affirmed the effectiveness of group work in promoting the interpersonal skills of the school-age children who brought up in single parent families. The group work is targeted, participate and efficient, and the author try to help these children to build self-confidence, to gain a sense of belonging, to release negative emotions, to form a correct cognition, to learn social etiquette skills through the interpersonal communication thematic group. And this could provide some references and comments to the protection of these children.
