The Research Of Embedded Network Management Agent System Based On ARM

With the scale enlargement of CATV network, all kinds of network equipment and access technologies are widely used in construction of CATV network, so it makes demand of all-round monitoring for network equipment become more and more high. The early CATV equipment only support proximal monitoring of serial port and other short-distance communication, and they are short of remote monitoring ability to manage equipment, so it is very difficult for management and maintenance of equipment. Therefore it is significant to design and realize embedded network management agent system that possess of ability of remote real-time monitoring CATV equipment (OmniStar optical transmission platform).According to the network management demand of OmniStar optical transmission platform, this article designed and realized the embedded network management agent based on the ARM. It designed the embedded network management agent system solution on the basis of the SNMP protocol research, including serial port communication command analysis which communities with managed equipment, design of embedded system platform as well as design of embedded network management agent software. Through research serial communication process between OmniStar optical transmission platform and head control software,and analysis the parameters change of head control software and serial communication instruction change in the process of communication, five kinds of serial port communication instruction format were analyzed, including the equipment information instruction, equipment state instruction, equipment numerical instruction, equipment configuration instruction and equipment alarm instruction. The design of the embedded system platform mainly includes selection of embedded microcontroller processor, transplantation of Linux kernel, and construction of the file system and so on, it is to provide platform which network management agent software operated. Network management agent software completed the network communication function, protocol conversion function and serial communication function, and has realized to collect state parameter, switch work mode and manage alarm information functions be managed equipment based on AGENT++toolkits in the Linux development environment.Finally, the embedded network management agent that this paper designs and implements was tested to use MIB Browser software. It sends serial communication instruction to OmniStar optical transmission platform and the sampled data from OmniStar optical transmission platform are encapsulated as SNMP response message, and then submits to the management terminal, thus the embedded network management agent system could analysis network management request from the management terminal and realized remote monitoring management for cable TV equipment.
