Research And Implementation Of SNMP Agent Development Platform

Network management technology has been developing rapidly since SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) was published at the end of 1980s. It has become an essential element in constructing and maintaining networks along with the enhancement of management functions and expanding of managed objects.Currently most IP-based management software uses SNMP as the interface to communicate with managed objects. Network devices should implement SNMP Agent software in them before they are taken in the management scope of SNMP network management systems. Yet since SNMP Agent is part of SNMP protocol implementation, and the protocol is greatly standardized, thus demanding a lot of labor and material resources to develop its development platform, most domestic device producers depend on foreign protocol development platforms to implement SNMP Agent in their own products. So it is very important to develop our own products of the SNMP Agent development platform.Aiming at this status, the thesis discusses how to implement the SNMP Agent, designs and implements an SNMP Agent development platform based on analysis of the SNMP Agent functions and its development tools in existence. The platform can automatically generate SNMP Agent according to the managed object information models presented by users and offer application programming interfaces to users.After the introduction of SNMP management framework and related technology to the platform implementation, the thesis analyzes the architecture of SNMP Agent development platform in detail and introduces the functions and implementations of all compositive modules entirely. At last it summarizes the research work and presents some prospects on the project.
