The human being’s life is threaten by the climate change, the exceeding and stillincreasing greenhouse gas emission and the more and more serious global warming. Since theindustrial evolution, people pursued for the economic prosperity blindly. The environmentwas damaged to a great extent as consequence. People started to realize the importance ofsustainable development, and that they could not over-explore the natural resources as theydid in the past but should decrease the greenhouse gas emission at source and be responsiblefor our environment. The key issue is to create an environmentally-friendly economics, whichnot only can ensure the sustainable development of economics but also protect ourenvironment. The nature is the important resources of tourism. It is crucial to maintain theeconomic efficiency and protect the environment in the process of tourism development. Thepurpose of the current research is to coordinate the relation between environmental protectionand economic efficiency. Tourism eco-efficiency is the guided theory to balance the relationbetween environmental protection and economic efficiency, which, to be specific, is therelation between carbon footprint and tourism consumption in the current research. Dali,Yunnan is selected as the research object. Questionnaire is adopted as a method to collect datato assess the relation between the tourism transportation carbon footprint and tourismeco-efficiency in Dali. The research will provide suggestions to the low carbon tourismdevelopment in Dali, from the angle of carbon decreasing and the angle of balancing therelation between carbon emission and tourism. Dali is a tourism city of great potential inYunnan Province. The goal of the city is to expedite the tourism, especially the low-carbontourism. The result of the research will help the city to clarify its marketing policies andspecify its tourism promotion. Based on the ratio and the ranking of the data of the tourismfootprint and tourism consumption, the research will educe the most ideal tourism markets,which should be a combination of tourism eco-efficiency and economic efficiency. The mostideal foreign tourism markets are as follows: Switzerland ranks the first, followed by Belgium,Austria and The United States. The domestic ones are the twelve provinces ranking from topas below: Fujian, Jilin, Tianjin, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Xinjiang, Hebei, Guizhou,Neimenggu, Hubei and Hunan. The six most ideal markets within Yunnan province are: Shangrila, Dehong, Yuxi, Chuxiong, Lincang and Lijiang. The suggestions to developlow-carbon tourism in Dali are: promote the use of environmentally-friendly transportation;encourage and guide tourists to adopt low-carbon method of consumption; improve theattraction of Dali tourism industry and thus attract more tourists and increase the economicefficiency; prior select the market featured with low-carbon consumption and high economicefficiency.
