Research On The Reasons And Countermeasures Of China’s Food Safety Problems

Food safety is one of the key issues of concern in the world today, it is directlyrelated to people’s health, the safety of life and socio-economic development. In recentyears, with the rapid development of the productive forces in China and improvement ofpeople’s living standards, food safety increasingly get universal attention of the society.However, advances in technology, the extension of the food supply chain, widely used invarious food additives, the birth of new food production process, and transgenictechnology intervention, make the traditional food safety system face a great challenge.In recent years, China’s food safety has been a growing problem, frequent major foodsafety issues seriously impact on people’s daily lives, with affecting the food industry aswell as the healthy development of the national economy as a whole, resulting in conflictof consumers, food companies and regulatory agencies. All of these lead to socialinstability. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse the current situation and problems ofChina’s food safety and study the main cause of China’s food safety problem, thenpropose appropriate countermeasures. It helps to regulate China’s food industry, improvethe healthy life of the people, ensure China’s stable and rapid economic development andenhance the international image of our country.This paper analyzes the existing problems of China’s food safety, performancecharacteristics and hazards, and then from information asymmetry, the governmentcaptured,two-stage game and social supervision perspective to study deep-seated reasonsof food safety incidents. Combined with significant foreign governance relevantexperience about food safety incidents，this paper finally put forward the correspondingcountermeasures and suggestions including improving consumer access to information,improving the food safety legal system, taking appropriate food safety measures andmobilizing the whole society to participate.
