For human being, land does offer the space of its survival and development, which can be deemed to be the most precious resources. With the economic development and population expansion, human beings ask for more land. Of course, the contradiction come into being arising from the unbalance between land supply and demand, as the land is limited and non-renewable. The contradiction calls for sustainable use of land urgently which is a vital part of the sustainable development strategy, Now, it has become a hot topic for scholars worldwide. As part of the land resources, the urban land resources has the highest return on asset and can accommodate urban construction which is indispensable for the economic reproduction, population reproduction and environmental reproduction. The natural elements are vital to sustainable development of a specific city. Whether urban land can be used sustainably or not will exert a direct influence on the sustainable development of a city. In Qingdao, total amount of land resources is meager, and the resources per capita is more limited. The contradiction between people and land is fairly sharp. At the same time, since the implementation of reform and opening-up policy, Qingdao’s economy has been developing fastly. And the rapid rate of urbanization exert a great influence on land us. In turn, the contradiction between land supply, demand and other issues related to land use has become increasingly sharper. Therefore, the selected topic of the paper is significant to its sustainable development in terms of practical meaning. This paper focuses on sustainable use of urban land of Qingdao city which is the exertion and deepening of sustainable development strategy in the field of land resources use. At first, the paper gives the profile of academic achievements on this field in China and developed countries, giving a frame of reference and background for the study. Next the paper raise an analysis of the target, intensity and meaning of the sustainable use of urban land. From the spatial and time angles, the author try to demonstrate some essential issues of the sustainable use of urban land. Secondly, the author make an analysis of the present structure and evolution route of Qingdao in this sphere, and opens changing rule of urban land structure. Next, based on the basic ideas of information theory, the author manage to calculate information entropy of Qingdao’s urban land use structure, and make an analysis of evolution condition of the selected area in Qingdao in terms of urban land use structure. The result shows that the information entropy value of urban land structure of Qingdao reduced between1999and2009, and shows that in the chosen years, the index developes very maturely, and the order of land use structure gets enhanced, the determination get strengthened, and the land has been used very reasonably.Based on the generalized analysis of the present theories, this paper put into discussion the principles in the sustainable evaluation of urban land use and the notion to design the appraising index system. This paper manage to construct an evaluation index system of sustainable use of urban land in terms of economical validity, structure feasibility, scale rationality, social acceptability and ecological safety. Furthermore, this paper take normalized processing to the appraisal index system through percentum function, and calculate weight of each index with entropy power method, and finally get to comprehend sustainable use level of urban land in Qingdao between1999and2009with the linearity adding weight method. The result shows that the use of urban land is sustainable in this period in Qingdao, and the sustainable level has been strengthened ceaselessly, however there are some problems arising in this process. The author raises specific advices and measures to the problems undermining sustainable use of urban land in Qingdao. Finally, the author express the wish to make deeper research.
