China and India are one of the four ancient civilizations, which have a long history and atthe same time they are the largest developing country in the world reaching one-thirdpopulation of the world. This makes them to become the most important agriculturalcountries in the world. Therefore the two countries regard their own agriculturaldevelopment as the top priority. In the recent years the rise of the developing economies,especially China and India continue to create the miracle of the world economy. At thesame time, the two countries have also experienced similar problems: the pressure of thefood and old-age security brought by population expansion, the environmental pollutioncaused by the rapid economic development and so on. One of the most importantproblems is the food security problem due to rapid population growth.The two countriesdo not despise agriculture while the rapid economic development, but regard agriculturalissues as fundamental development. India’s arable land accounts for more than60%ofthe national land, the agricultural products of land resources have a strong comparativeadvantage;China’ arable land accounts small area, but the level of agriculturalmechanization is stronger than India, labor-intensive agricultural products have acomparative advantage. Developing agricultural trade between the two countries andplaying their respective advantages can form complementary. Therefore, the expansion ofagricultural trade between the two countries can not only improve the level of trade ofagricultural products between the two countries,but also reduce the dependence on thedeveloped countries ‘agricultural products, reduce the risk of agricultural tradeconcentrated.This article takes agricultural trade between China and India as the study object,analysis aseries of issues of bilateral agricultural trade from competitive andcomplementary angles. The article contains five parts: The first is the introduction whichintroduces the background, significance, research purposes and methods, innovation andso on. The second part analyzes the status of the overall trade between the two countriesand structural characteristics through qualitative analysis. The third part quantitativelyanalyzes the agricultural products by using the comparative advantage index and the export similarity index from the competitive angle. the fourth part analyzes theSino-Indian agricultural products by using the trade complementary index, inter-industrytrade index from a complementary perspective.The last part analyzes the trade betweenthe two countries in the future in order to provide policy recommendations for bilateraltrade development using the trade intensity index.
