China and Vietnam are two neighboring countries which share a 1,281 kilometers border, and a multi-lateral,long-standing and traditional relationship. In particular, the trade relationship between the two countries is developing fast and affecting many aspects of the socio-economic development process of both sides.In2003,China became Vietnam's largest importer and third-largest exporter.Since 2004,China has become Vietnam's main partner in foreign trade, surpassing Japan as Vietnam's largest trading partner.Since its formal establishment in 2010,the ChinaASEAN free trade area has provided a new platform for agricultural trade between Vietnam and China. From 2014 to 2018,Vietnam's agricultural exports to China grew rapidly at a rate of about 36% a year. The purpose of this study is to promote the economic and trade activities of the two countries, especially the orderly trade cooperation of agricultural products. This paper mainly USES comparative analysis and quantitative and qualitative analysis to analyze the complementary relationship between Vietnam and China in bilateral trade. The first chapter describes the background and significance of the topic, the analysis methods and directions, and the research status at home and abroad. The second chapter is about the theory of comparative advantage, the theory of factor endowment and the theory of international competitive advantage. The third chapter mainly elaborates on the current trade situation between the two countries.Chapter four and chapter five analyze the competitiveness and complementarity of the agricultural products trade between Vietnam and China quantitatively. Finally,it points out the problems existing in the agricultural trade between Vietnam and China, probes into these problems, and analyzes the specific countermeasures and Suggestions.Based on the agricultural trade data of Vietnam and China from 2009 to 2018 in the United Nations trade database, this paper conducts a quantitative and qualitative analysis on the competitiveness and complementarity of Chinese and Vietnamese agricultural products, using the classification of "harmonized commodity name and coding system-hs".Vietnam and China have similar export markets and product structures for agricultural products.Based on the binary data of HS,the market shareindex and trade competitiveness index of agricultural products between Vietnam and China are calculated, which show the comparative advantage index, trade complementarity index and trade intensity index. It is found that Vietnam and China often trade agricultural products. The competitiveness and complementarity of agricultural products trade between Vietnam and China exist together, and the complementarity is greater than the competitiveness.Vietnam has a strong advantage in that agricultural products are land-intensive products, while China has the advantage in labor-intensive products and agricultural products processing. In conclusion, this paper proposes that Vietnam and China should improve bilateral agricultural trade policies, further improve the quality of import and export agricultural products and optimize the industrial structure of agricultural products. At the same time,Vietnam and China should draw on each other's strengths, vigorously cooperate, make use of One Belt And One Road and further strengthen economic and trade cooperation mechanisms and agricultural innovation capacity.
