A lot of unique and colorful intangible cultural heritage emerges through the fivethousands of years of the development of China. It is the very intangible heritage thatprovides the source for ethnic tourism. Therefore, there will be an absence of the sourceof ethnic tourism without the presence of intangible cultural heritage. The developmentof tourism not only provides economic values but also leave much space for intangiblecultural heritage.It is the ethnic customs in Fenghuang county in the Xiangxi canton of Tu and Miaonationality that is regarded as the splendid and wonderful work in tourism, especiallythe intangible cultural heritage of Fenghuang county which is the featured by the drumdance of Miao nationality. The drum dance of Miao nationality reflects its indispensibleform of culture and its own character. For tourists from outer county, the drum danceowns a great attraction.This thesis will combine closely with the practical situation of drum dance of Miaonationality in Fenghuang county of Xiangxi canton. What’s more, the interactiverelationship of ethnic tourism and the protection of intangible cultural heritage will bediscussed in this thesis with the presence of ethnic tourism.This study contents the following parts: First, there is a comprehensive and detailedintroducing of Drum Dance of Miao nationality in Fenghuang. The introductionincludes Fenghuang area and its tourism、the history and connotation and value of DrumDance of Miao nationality in Fenghuang. Second, there is a study about the protectionprinciples and strategies and achievements in practice. Finally, considering the actualsituation of Drum Dance, author attempt to prove that the developing of tourism andthe protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage can achieve win-win. Data collectionmethod、Literature collection method and field research are applied. And the researchobjects are including government, tourism businesses, residents and tourists. This studyis attempted to prove that the developing of tourism and the protection of IntangibleCultural Heritage can achieve win-win.
