Nature reserve construction restricts the development and utilization of resources of thesurrounding farmers, the development of surrounding communities and farmers living. Thecontradiction and conflict between the area and the surrounding community has become the focuswhich troubled the coordinated development of the nature protection area. This study is based on thefield survey data of living conditions of192farmers,24villages,8surrounding nature reserves inZhejiang and Shanxi provinces. It gives us a statistical description of protected area managementcommunity livelihoods condition, and it has also analysed the influence which protected areamanagement mode and the tourism development conditions have on protection intention byconstructing Ologit quantitative model. The results show that, from the point of view of nature reservemanagement, it will have a significant positive impact on improving the surrounding farmers supportby providing employment assistance and compensation mechanism of community. But the currentcommunity co-management and tourism development has no significant influence on the protectionwill of farmers in the surrounding communities statistically. We can know the fact that China’sexisting so-called community management mode doesn’t play a real role, and tourism developmentcan not bring real benefits to the surrounding communities. From the farmer’s point of view, in thecurrent situation where the consumption structure of peasant household energy is still dominated byfirewood. The higher the energy consumption level, the lower the surrounding community farmers’willingness to protect nature reserves. This runs in opposite direction of the expectation, which stillneeds further research and testing. The author thinks, we should further improve the communityco-management mechanism, give full play to the mode of community condominium,establishlong-term compensation channels, improve peasants’ livelihood, and reduce the surroundingcommunity farmers direct dependence on nature reserve.
