The Research On Competitiveness Of Coastal Port City

The situation of globalization is obvious, the speed of all kinds of resource elementtrans-regional flow is constantly accelerating, the centre of the global economy start to coastalport city. According to statistics, the coastal area accounted for only3%of the land area onthe world, but the two-thirds of big city distributed on it, some famous internationalmetropolis are the place where the big port located, such as the European London, Hamburg,Los Angeles, New York, Montreal, Francisco and other port cities on the North Americas,Yokohama and Kobe on Japan, Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta onChina. The development reflects the law of both harbor and city co-prosperity, port city isbecoming the core of national development, becoming the key to improve regionalcompetitiveness.The paper analyzes the question through qualitative and quantitative methods, based onrelated theories of urban competitiveness, starts from the definition of port city and citycompetitiveness, references the related research results both on China and abroad fully,defines the concept of port city competitiveness scientifically, follows the certain principle,through auditions, filters and rational analyses the index, establishes scientific and reasonableevaluation index system and model about port city competitiveness. The index systemdetermines the urban competitiveness of the four subsystems that include: urban economic,social system, environment facilities, port resources and determines the53concreteevaluation index, gives a comprehensive, in-depth comparison analysis and evaluation about40port cities competitiveness in2010, draws the score of each system and synthetic score ofcity competitiveness, then orders them.Deeply revealed characteristics and differences about competitiveness in various cities,understood the situation of the development of the city at present, objective evaluated theadvantages, disadvantages and potential about them, proposed the theoretical basis forplanning and layout unified, allocating resources rationally, promoted the position ofcomprehensive, propelled port city to realize coordinated development.
