To study the development and evolution of modern China’s consumption thought, this paper analyzed China’s modern consumption idea in the development and evolution based on the dimension of time and historical perspectives. In this paper, we classified China’s consumption stage by macro-economic development level and consumption rules, then made detailed analysis and summary on the different development stages of China’s consumption thought.Specifically, the development of consumptive idea can be divided into three stages. Firstly, our country taken the Soviet planned economy model as a guide and reference standards carried on restoration and economic construction after the founding of new China. The consumption of this period has obvious planned scheme. Secondly, the reforming and opening up established the takeoff of china’s economy, especially the market idea changed our consumption characteristics; Finally, since we joined the WTO, the market began to more and more open, the consumption concept gradually to be modernization and diversity. However, we began to reconsider the consumption concept after the outbreak of the financial crisis, the rational consumption, moderate consumption and harmonious consumption concept gradually to appear. In brief, there are three conclusions can be draw from this paper.Primarily, the consumption thought in the early days is mainly the planned economy and guiding ideology. During this period, China’s main leaders adapt the basic guiding ideology in economy construction and development. The consumption thought in this stage was typically the planned consumption thought which learned from the Soviet pattern, by which our country completed industrial base.The next, after the reform and opening up, the consumption ideas began to change as market economy and pursue collective rich. During this period, the leaders of Deng Xiaoping reformed the consumption system, established market rules and common prosperity. This realized the speed up of our economic and achieved a historic leap. The consumption thought in this period was more and more marketization.Finally, the consumption idea become more and more open and pluralistic after joined the WTO, the consumers prone to pursuit fashion and conspicuous. At this stage, the national economy and social productivity of our country earned a rapid growth; our country has generally entered the well-off society, people’s living standards and quality of life in the period are higher than the reform and opening up. In this context, as an important part of people’s life, the consumption thought in this time appeared some new and new phenomenon. Such as the consumption behavior appeared the trend of diversification, luxury and so on.
