Evolution Of The Pillar Industries In Chongqing Territory

Pillar industry not only can reflect the regional economic but also can be aneconomic growth point. How to make an choice scientifically and reasonably is key tothe development of regional economic. Basing on the concept and characteristics of thepillar industry, this paper established an index system from series of years ofinput-output statistics. Then the paper continued to research the pillar industry inChongqing and its evolutions by ways of input-output analysis quantitatively andmacroeconomic analysis qualitatively. We also studied the pillar industry’s evolutionarycharacteristics，its status in the industry structure, and also its relationships with otherindustries. As an old industrial base, Chongqing is not only the core of the northwestregion, but also the youngest municipality of China. After15years of economicdevelopment, its pillar industry has changed a lot. The evolution of pillar industry inChongqing reflects the whole economic structure and development. At the mean time,its own operation and development can bring much support and promotion to otherrelative industries. These all point out an bright road for the future economicdevelopment of Chongqing.This paper has six chapters. The first chapter elaborates the research background,research purpose, and the research current situation about the pillar industry home andaboard. The second chapter introduces some relative theories of pillar industry includingits definition, structure, characteristics and relationships with the leading industry. Thethird chapter introduces how to select the indicators and methods in order to measurethe pillar industry correctly and the principles in the whole process, Which laysfoundations for the research in Chongqing bellow. The fourth chapter elaborates theevolutions of pillar industries in Chongqing. We can see clearly the development routeof pillar industry in Chongqing through analysis of a6-year input-and-output table data,and especially by analysis of the10-years long. The fifth chapter is the systematical andcomparative analysis of pillar industries in Chongqing city. This part analysis the“regular”and the “evoluated” pillar industry comprehensively and systematically bystudying the annual investment. Compared with Shanghai, Chongqing’s pillar industryhas much shortcomings over10years data. Finally, we make a multiplier analysis of theseven pillar industries of Chongqing in2010by connecting with the “6+1” pillarindustry launched by the government, expecting to find out the development trend inChongqing, the current problems and causes behind.
