Material management is an integral part in construction enterprise project management. With the rapid development in the business today, materials management directly maintains the enterprise’s productivity and operation, and the level of management impacts on the cost of business, having great significance on normal productivity and long-term development. The quality of material management in the construction project is directly related to the cost control, the regularly proceed of the operation and the material guarantee for the enterprise’s development, which is also an important subject for any enterprise. Only enterprises put the concept of material management into the reasonable construction process, can it reduce extremely the management cost, optimize the structure of procurement, enhance competitiveness, establish rapport with the suppliers, thus realize the goal of the development of the company.A company is a fortune500construction general contractor. At present there are many problems in material management, such as the procurement plan is not timely and accurate; purchasing plan cannot arrange unified planning; purchase quantity and the actual quantity disconnect; purchasing cost is high; materials on site management cannot reach the designated stipulate; quality suppliers is lack. It not only makes a lot of difficulties to the company’s management, but also directly impacts the cost of material management and, in turn, affects the economic benefit of the company. For the above material problems in the management of A company, this paper firstly optimize the plan and purchasing management, from the planning program to planning the program schedule, and refine the procedures of the procurement bidding. Secondly, the paper optimizes the materials on site, strictly controls the process of material inspection, requisition and consuming. Finally, it optimizes the management of suppliers, implements more strict inspection system and the satisfaction survey, and makes the supplier management more standardized. The whole optimization plan combines with the management theory of cost control in advance, matter and afterwards, which can grasp the direction of the cost control and steps more substantially. In order to ensure the implementation of optimized scheme, it finally established the mechanism of plan execution and inspection, mechanism of optimizing procurement cost, mechanism of limiting quota-material, and mechanism of suppliers’ classification.In this paper, the results of the study have important significance to A company’s materials management cost control. At the same time, it can be reference for other general contracting construction contractor.
