Agriculture is the basic industry. The whole world attaches great importance to thefundamental role played by agriculture. Shandong is a traditional agriculturalstronghold in China. For the past three decades since reform and opening up,especially during the past ten year since China’s entry into WTO, Shandong’s foreigntrade of agricultural products has been maintaining continuous and rapid growth.Exports of agricultural products account for almost a quarter of the country’s total,ranking first for13consecutive years. As the pillar industry of the province,strategies-making of agricultural products export is vital to the goal of forging theprovince into a strong economic power. In addition, a study of agricultural productsexport strategy has a direct and irreplaceable impact on agricultural industrialization,promoting technological progress, adjusting industrial structure and increasing ruralincome.This essay is about to take a close look at Shandong’s foreign trade of agriculturalproducts in a bid to offer appropriate suggestions to promote trade and improve exportsystem via analysis of the export background and status quo and combining certaintrade theories and work experience.The essay gives a general analysis international trade market of agricultural products,current situation of Shandong’s agricultural products export and existing problems.Issues, such as tougher technical barrier, rising operational cost, weak corporatecompetitiveness, limited market share and restricted export scale due to loopholes oftraditional agriculture, are studies and probed in this essay. Based on the analysis,measures to be taken to enhance export and improve export system are formulated.This essay is consisted of six chapters. Chapter one: introduction. It gives a briefintroduction to the backdrop and significance of the study, summaries issues inagricultural products export and lays down the framework of the essay. Chapter two:theoretical review. It is divided into two parts, which are features and rudimenttheories of agricultural products export. Chapter three: status quo and features ofinternational agricultural products trade. It further studies current situation and trendof international agricultural products trade on the basis of global market andcommodity structure. Chapter four: policies and achievements of Shandong’s agricultural products export. It sums up the achievements of agricultural productsexport in recent years due to the province’s incentive policies, including expansion ofexport scale, optimization of export structure, boosting of priority market share,benefits brought to the rural residents. Chapter five: Prominent challenges ofShandong’s agricultural products export. It covers Issues like tougher technical barrier,rising operational cost, weak corporate competitiveness, limited market share andrestricted export scale due to loopholes of traditional agriculture, etc. Chapter six:measures and suggestions of a vigorous development of Shandong’s agriculturalproducts export. Suggestions are put forward in six aspects, namely innovating andimproving export policy support, promoting export market diversification, optimizingexport structure to upgrade the industry, nurturing export leaders, carrying outinternational practice to escalate export competitiveness, advancing the constructionof quality and safety demonstration area of agricultural products export.
