China's Import Trade Structure And Technological Progress Correlation

Technical progress is a fundamental driving force of a country’s sustainable andstable development. For developing countries like China,through directly or indirectlyimport from the developed technology leading countries, on the basis of digesting andabsorbing, then making secondary innovation, this approach can be implemented withless cost and faster speed to improve its technical strength, compared with the pureindependent research, which can narrow the technology gap with developed countriesmore quickly. Since China’s reform and opening up, especially since the accession tothe WTO, China’s international trade developed rapidly, in2011export total$1.89838trillion, imports totaled$1.74348trillion, export and import power ranking secondand third.But the trade surplus awalys leads friction and disputes with tradingpartners. So regardless of external pressure relief, or meeting internal developmentdemands, the further development of imports are the best choice. But how to makeimport to make greater utility for the promotion of technology in our country? It isworth our further discussion.This paper first theoretically summarize the import trade ways of internationaltechnology diffusion mechanism and influencing factors, so as to set up a basicanalysis on the import trade and importer of technology progress framework. Toevaluate the importance of imports for domestic technology progress in China, andthen make policy recommendations, which must be based on the import trade ofChina’s current status and technology development as the background for research. Sothe rest of this article analyses the current import trade situation of our country,andinvestigates the technology of the China’s current stage of development. Finally usingChinese data to validate the relationship between China’s import trade and the importtrade structure with technological progress respectively.The specific conclusions of the paper are as follows:(1) China’s import trade canmake technological progress, an additional unit can promote technological progress0.183528units, thus we need to increase imports;(2) in China, the import of capitaland technology intensive products make a obviouse pull power to our technologyprogress. So we need to care more about the import of these goods;(3) FDI and ourown R&D acativities have little influence to our technology progress. We need to useFDI reasonably and strengthen our R&D power and apply them to our industrialmannufacture.
