Ignore motivation or motivation inefficacy are important reasons for failing to achieve synergy effect in knowledge alliance. This paper presents the concept of motivation synergy in the context of knowledge alliances, and give a definition of it from the perspectives of knowledge mainbody, relationship between different knowledge mainbody and motivation order parameter. We introduce motivation cloud model of motivation synergy in knowledge alliances, and describe its characteristics. We propose a denotation model for motivation synergy, which contains knowledge mainbody and lifecycle dimensionalities, then elaborate the denotation from lifecycle dimensionality.Then, from the perspective of system, based on alliance incentive theory, this study divides the influence factors of motivation synergy into four dimensions: knowledge agent behavior, motivation synergy structure, motivation synergy motive and knowledge alliance situation. Through survey and empirical analysis, this paper investigates the effects of the four dimensions on motivation synergy. The results show that cooperative behavior positively influences motivation synergy in knowledge alliance, while competitive behavior has significant negative effects; motivation synergy structure, motivation synergy motive and knowledge alliance situation positively influence cooperative behavior, while have significant negative effects on competitive behavior; knowledge agent behavior fully mediates the effect of motivation synergy structure, motivation synergy motive and knowledge alliance situation on motivation synergy.Finally, Based on sufficient analysis on influential factors of motivation synergy effect, this paper applys cause-and-effect model from system dynamics to analysis the relations between factors and the deep-going influential mechanism of relations. The authors construct system dynamics model of motivation synergy in the context of knowledge alliance and list the main system dynamics formulas, and a simulation analysis is conducted. The results of empirical research confirme that motivation synergy in knowledge alliance has typical characteristics of system dynamics, different parts of motivation synergysystem constitute a chain of causation, any subtle change of those parts can produce "butterfly effect", and produce tremendous impact on the final synergistic effect.
